It is a combined course of Science and Engineering. With reference to Science, it deals with structure of materials, their macroscopic properties and features. To justify the Technological education, it includes manipulation of scientific properties of materials in a fruitful manner to enhance its industrial properties.

For this, a post graduation degree in material science is the first choice. Candidates who have done their Bachelors and masters degree in science related field from a recognized college are eligible for this course.
A candidate who has done a four year engineering course in related stream is also can also apply for this course.
The admission procedure varies from one institute to another. It can as simple as submission of filled application form with application fee to the entrance test, then interview.
The duration for this course is 1 year that is equivalent to 2 semesters. Being a technical course, it is not available as distance learning course.
