Specializations and career paths in Law


The entry level graduate courses are designed to prepare the student for legal career. The advanced courses are referred to as PhD in law, Doctor of Laws, doctor of Juridical Science. Most graduate course curriculum comprise of compulsory core courses and few electives which will define the further career path. In most colleges teaching is carried out through lectures, practical, seminars, group work, presentation, debates, panel discussions followed by practicals in courtroom settings to hone the legal skills like research and analysis, public speaking and argument formation.

After completion of the course the law graduate can work in the corporate sector or set up a private practice as an advocate. The law graduate can become judge after clearing the Public Service Commission exams. Further career options after gathering experience are Solicitor General or a Public Prosecutor or a leading positions in the government departments and ministries. The job profiles in the corporate and government sector include criminal lawyer, civil litigation lawyer, legal analyst, legal journalist, legal advisor, government lawyer, mediator, court reporter, legal investigator etc. Overall careers in law are in demand and hence choosing course in law is an attractive option.
