To leave in the lurch means to leave somebody in a helpless condition or in difficulty.

Sample Usage

1. Sowmya never thought that her boss would fire her after three years of service and leave her in the lurch.

2. With no bus or train for the next five hours, Mr. Mishra was left in the lurch; now he would not be able to reach his destination in time for the meeting.
