Rhetoric means the art of formal speech or writing.

Rhetoric is a noun.

Synonyms: mannered language, formal speech, oratory.

Note: Rhetoric is often used in a pejorative sense to mean eloquent language that is insincere or meaningless.


Sample Usage

The politician's words were mere rhetoric—an insincere bunch of nonsense.

Don't waste my precious time with a lot of rhetoric.

Durga is skilled in rhetoric; she is a talented public speaker.
