A 'Prefix' is a syllable which we put at the beginning of a word in order to get another word.
A Prefix has no meaning of its own, but when added to another word, it changes the word's meaning ; as when un is added to happy, we get a new word unhappy; when mis is added to take we get a new word mistake.

A 'Suffix' is a syllable which we put at the end of a word in order to get another word.
A Suffix has no meaning of its own, but when combined with another word, it changes the word's meaning ; as when dom is added to king, we get a new word kingdom.

Suffixes and Prefixes are together called Affixes.
