A stitch in time saves nine is a common proverb which is widely used today. It means "a timely effort can prevent a lot of work later".This proverb is almost similar to the proverb "make hay while the sun shines".

Sample Usage

1. Kishore decided to enjoy his holidays but after which he found it difficult to complete all his home works in a single day. He would have not kept his works in pending if he had understood the proverb saying a stitch in time saves nine.

2. Once a ship was caught in rough weather. One of the passengers noticed a small hole in the ship and informed it to the captain of the ship immediately. But the captain ignored it. So, the passenger decided to escape from the ship on a small boat. After some times, the ship was caught in a rough weather and the hole became larger. This time the hole was very large to be repaired. Hence, the ship finally sank into the sea. This huge loss would have not happened if the captain had already realized that a stitch in time saves nine.
