Writing a thanks note when you change the department in the same organization

Often it is seen that after working in the same department over a certain period of time, employees look for other opportunities through Internal Job Postings (IJP) to move a step forward in achieving their aspirations.

In most IT companies this is very common. Offshore-based employees look for onsite opportunities. When they get a chance after clearing interviews they move out of the department. Before leaving, an e-mail is written to thank everyone in the department and to say good bye!!

Sample Usage

Dear Team,

This comes a little late in the day, but bidding adieu isn’t always quick and easy. Takes time, especially when it means moving away from an association of three years (specify the tenure), built over a stream of hard-fought deals and lots of midnight candles, burnt at both ends. Of course, that is what made this stint so memorable, and the associations, so close to my heart. I will be missing all of you – seniors, who had become friends (philosophers and guides, too!), and colleagues, who had become comrades! You made it worth my while in the team!

As I write this parting note, I feel the trepidations of donning a new hat, and essaying a new role. But I take heart, confident of drawing upon my learning, and the collective experience of a bunch of extremely talented folks, whenever I want to reach out!

The city of angels wakes up around me (I write from Los Angeles, where I arrived yesterday evening!), and I prepare to turn over a new leaf in my diary.

Good bye and take care until we meet again!

Affectionately yours,
(Write your name)
