AT340 AUTOMOTIVE ELECTRONICS

PART – A (10 x 2 = 20 Marks)

ANSWER ALL QUESTIONS

1. Differentiate open loop and closed loop control systems.
2. How a micro controller differ from a microprocessor?
3. List out the different actuators used in electronic engine management and mention where they are used.
4. Give a list of the various types of sensors used in the MPFI petrol engine.
5. Briefly explain the working of a typical relay.
6. Differentiate Throttle body Injection and Multi port fuel injection system.
7. How the Engine Speed can be monitored using a non contact type sensor?.
8. What is the need of altitude and ambient temperature compensation in an electronically managed engine?
9. How deceleration leaning of the mixture is achieved in an engine having a closed loop control system?
10. What do you mean by Electromagnetic interference?

PART – B (5 x 16 = 80 Marks)

11. With the aid of a neat sketch explain the construction and theory of operation of a typical oxygen sensor used in vehicle. (16)
12. a) With the aid of block diagram explain the working of a microcomputer
on board a vehicle. (16)

13. a) With the aid of sketches explain the construction and working of Mass
Air Flow sensors and Throttle position sensor used in vehicle. (16)

14. a) Write about the different types of triggering devices in a contact less
ignition system. (16)

b) With the aid of block diagram and flow charts explain the starting
and acceleration enrichment of the Fuel Injection system of a
petrol car having electronic engine management. (16)

15. a) Write notes on the following: (16)

i) Manifold Air Pressure Sensor.
ii) EMI Suppression.
iii) Throttle position sensor
iv) Integrated engine control.

b) Write notes on the following : (16)

i) Limitations of a Carburetor.
ii) Fuel Injectors in Petrol engine.
iii) Exhaust emission control.
