1. Explain various fundamental reasons for implementing a Computer Aided Design
system. [16]
2. List out and explain various operator input devices. [16]
3. Make sketch of a rectangular solid model and show how the various solid models
can be scaled, reoriented, added, substracted and intersected to create geometry of
the object. [16]
4. Explain about the contents of a data base system and its organization. [16]
5. Write short notes on the following: [4 × 4 = 16]
(a) Member stiffness and structure stiffness
(b) Transformation matrix
(c) Equivalent joint loads
(d) Degrees of freedom.
6. Old hens can be bought at Rs.2/- each and young ones at Rs. 5/- each. The old
hens lay 3 eggs per week and the young ones lay 5 eggs per week, each egg being
worth 30 paise. A hen costs Re 1/- per week to feed. I have only Rs 80/- to spend
for hens, how many of each kind should I buy to give a profit of more than Rs 6/-
per week, assuming that I cannot house more than 20 hens. Formulate the L.P.
problem and solve this graphically. [16]
7. Derive expressions for differentiation expressions connecting deflection, slope, bend-
ing moments shear force and load using concepts of backward difference terms in
finite difference method. [16]
8. (a) Describe any two methods for obtaining an initial basic feasible solution to a
transportation problem. [10]
(b) How would you test for optimality of a given solution for the transportation
problem.
