1. (a) Explain with a neat sketch the working of a roll crusher.
(b) Explain the conditions, for the particles to be nipped or crushed in a roll
crusher.
(c) Explain about ‘rolls’ used in a roll crusher. [8+4+4]
2. Explain with a sketch the working of a tube mill. How it di ers from ball mill and
rod mill? Discuss it in detail. [16]
3. (a) What are the various factors that a ect the settling of solids in fluids. Explain
them.
(b) What is terminal velocity. Explain the importance of terminal velocity in
mineral dressing operations. [9+7]
4. (a) Define and explain the term classification.
(b) What are the factors on which the ‘classification’ depends? Explain them.
Explain the factors that a ect the cyclone performance. [4+8]
5. What are the various heavy liquid separation processes that are being used in
industries. Explain the working principle of each one of them. What are their
relative advantages, disadvantages and applications. [16]
6. (a) What are the important e ects that could contribute to the stratification in
‘Jigs’. Explain them in detail.
(b) Draw the ‘velocity’ to ‘time’ graph involved in Jigging process for di erent
type of particles i.e. coarse heavy particles finer particles, etc. and explain
the important features in it. [9+7]
7. Explain the following:
(a) Bubble attachment to mineral particle due to collision.
(b) Structure of froths
(c) Factors a ecting flotation. [16]
8. Write short notes on the following:
(a) Advances in permanent magnets.
(b) New-magnetic circuits.
(c) High intensity wet magnetic separators. [6+5+5]
