(a) Explain the principle of Balanced modulator using diodes to generate AM wave. (b) Explain the working principle of linear diode detector method of AM demod- ulation. [8+8] 2. (a) Explain briefly about the two types of FM. (b) Explain how a PLL can be used for FM detection. [6+10] 3. (a) Explain the operation of plate modulated AM generator with circuit diagram. (b) Explain the operation of high level transistor collector modulator circuit. [8+8] 4. With the help of a setup, explain the measurement procedure for obtaining the characteristics of a radio receiver. [16] 5. (a) Explain the source of shot noise and get the expression for its power density spectrum. (b) The noise figure of an amplifier is 7 db. Calculate the equivalent amplifier noise referred to the input for a bandwidth of 500 MHz. [8+8] 6. (a) Distinguish between PAM, PWM and PPM. (b) What is TDM?
