1. What are the features of Distributed data base (DDBS) and Centralized data base? Explain with neat block diagram. Bring out two advantages of DDBS over centralized database.
2. What is data fragmentation? What are the types of fragmentation?
3. What is a transaction? Explain with an example. Differentiate between database consistency and transaction consistency.
4. Explain Timestamp based concurrency control algorithm.
5. What are the concepts of reliability in DDBS? How do you measure the consistency of DDBS?
6. What are the general failures in DDBS? What are the recovery methods adopted?
7. Give a block diagram of any commercially available DDBS. Compare five main features of INGRESS and ORACLE systems. Give query optimization algorithm adopted in INGRESS system.
8. Explain the following:
(a) Deadlocks
(b) Atomicity of distributed transaction
(c) Checkpoints for checking inconsistency
(d) Failure transparency.
