2007 Anna University B.E Computer Science EE 1X11-ELECTRIACAL ENGINEERING Question paper
B.E/B.Tech. DEGREE EXAMINATION, APRIL/MAY 2007 Annual Pattern- First Year Computer Science and Enginnering EE 1X11-ELECTRIACAL ENGINEERING
Answer all the questions: PART A-(10 X 2=20 marks)
1.Distinguish between Power and Energy. 2.Under what condition is an AC circuit said to be resonant? 3.Define magnetic flux and magnetic flux density. 4.What is meant by leakage flux? 5.List out the different types of DC motor. 6.Define Voltage regulation of a transformer. 7.Name the types of Alternator based on their rotor construction. 8.Define slip of an induction motor. 9.Define open loop and closed loop systems. 10.Mention the advantages of using stepper motor.
PART B-(5 X 16=80)
11.(a).(i).Derive the equation for equivalent resistance of number of resistors connected in parallel. (ii). Two batteries, one with an emf of 100 V and an internal resistance of 1.5? and the other with an internal resistance of 0.5? are connected in parallel to supply a load of 3?. Calculate the load current using Superposition theorem. (Or) 11.(b).(i).Distinguish between (1).apparent-power (2).active-power and (3).reactive- power in AC circuits. (ii).An inductive coil takes 10A and consumes 1000 W when connected to 220V, 50Hz, AC supply. Find (1).impedance (2).reactance and (3).power-factor.
12.(a).(i).Write notes on electromagnetic induction. (ii).A coil of 1000 turns is linking a flux of 0.01 Wb. The flux is reversed in an interval of 0.1s. Calculate the average value of the emf induced in the coil. (Or) 12.(b).(i).Explain the concept of mutual inductance. (ii).A straight conductor 0.25m long carries a current of 80A and lies at right angles to a magnetic field of 0.5T. Find the mechanical force developed on the conductor. If the force causes the conductor to move at velocity of 12m/s, calculate the emf induced in it.
13.(a).Discuss the function and constructional details of the following parts of a DC machine. (i).Commutator, (ii).Brush assembly and (iii).Interpoles. (Or) 13.(b).Derive the equivalent circuit of a 1-phase Transformer and show how it is useful in the analysis of the performance of a Transformer. 14.(a).A 500 kVa, 3.3kV, 3-phase, star-connected Alternator is found to give a short circuit current of 290 A at normal field current. Its effective winding resistance per phase is 0.7?. Estimate the full load voltage regulation for (i).0.8 pf laggiging and (ii).Upf. (Or) 14.(b).Draw the torque-slip characteristics of a 3-phase slip-ring Induction motor for different values of its rotor circuit resistance and discuss the reasons for the shape of the curves.
15.(a).With suitable assumptions, derive the transfer function of a separately excited DC generator at no load condition. (Or) 15.(b).Explain the working principle of a 2-phase AC servometer. Derive transfer function.
