PGDMCH3 / MME103: Child Health, Growth and Nutrition
Time: 3 hours Maximum Marks: 70
Instructions for Students:
There are two sets of questions in this paper. The first set (Part I) belongs to the Old Syllabus and the second (Part II) belong to the New Syllabus. Please answer only one set applicable to you.
Answer all questions of the set you are attempting.
You must mention 'Old Syllabus' or 'New Syllabus' in bold letters on your answer sheet.
PART I (Old Syllabus):
1.Write the classification of ARI. Briefly describe the clinical features and treatment of pneumonia in children. (5+5+10=20)
2. Define weaning. List the etiology of childhood malnutrition. Briefly outline the clinical features of Kwashiorkor. Write the treatment of rickets. (5+5+5+5=20)
3. Write short notes on: (5+5+5=15) (a) Feeding LBW baby (b) ldentifying sick newborn in community (c) Physiological jaundice
4. Discuss briefly: (5+5+5=15) (a) Learning disorders in children (b) Toxic - shock syndrome (c) Antibiotics in diarrhea
PART II (New Syllabus):
Note: All questions are compulsory.
1. Classify LBW babies. List the common problems in LBW. Outline the care of LBW baby at home. (2+3+5=10)
2. Answer the following questions: (7+8=15) Case Study Hari is 12 months old. His weight is 8 kg. Axillary temperature is 37.8o C. He has been brought to the clinic with cough. He is able to breastfeed, does not vomit, has no convulsions and is not lethargic. Hari has been coughing for 4 days, has a respiratory rate of 48 per minute and has no chest drawing or stridor. Hari comes from a low malaria risk area and does not have stiff neck, bulging fontanelle or measles. (a) Classify Hari's illness. (b) Identify the treatment for Hari.
3. Write short notes on: (5+5+5=15) (a) Indications for oxygen therapy (b) Mantoux test (c) Pica
4. Discuss briefly: (5+5+5=15) (a) Febrile seizures (b) Complimentary feeding (c) Scurvy
5. Write short notes on: (5+5+5=15) (a) Typhoid vaccine (b) Health hazards of tobacco smoke (c) Nutritional problems in adolescents
