Maximum Weightage: 70%

Note: (i) All the four questions are compulsory.
(ii) All the questions carry equal weightage.

1. Answer the following question in about 600 words.

What is the status of English in India? Discuss, in detail, various problems coming across in teaching English.

OR

Reading is the most essential among the four. language skills. Do you agree? Support your answer with suitable examples.

2. Answer the following in about 600 words.

What is the place of grammar in the teaching of English? Discuss in detail the different kinds of grammar and how you will teach grammar effectively.

OR

How will you teach writing skills in order to make your students at Secondary level not only efficient writers but also creative ones? Justify your answer giving suitable examples.

3. Answer any four of the following questions in about 150 words each.

(i) What are the skills that contribute to efficient reading? Discuss briefly how you will develop the skills among your students.

(ii) Distinguish between intensive and extensive reading.

(iii) Discuss the pedagogic principles of the Communicative Approach in language teaching.

(iv) Which exercises will you organise to help the students to develop their active vocabulary?

(v) What are the objectives of teaching listening? Discuss in brief.

(vi) What are the different activities that you can use in the class for developing the skill of speaking? Describe one of these in some detail showing how it can be used in class.

4. Answer the following in about 600 words.

Most students in India come from acquisitionapoor environments and so you have to teach in difficult circumstances where the classes are huge and there is the pressure of completing the courses. In such circumstances what problems did you face in teaching of English? How did you organise various activities to make them learn all the four skills of language? Discuss in detail bringing out your approach, methods and techniques.
