3. What are the main parts of capstan and turret lathes? Describe in brief with help
of suitable illustrations? [16]
4. (a) What are various operations performed on shaper? Explain in detail [8]
(b) Describe constructional features of speed gearbox of slotter? [8]
5. (a) Explain clearly what is meant by Tapping. [6]
(b) Write any three differences between drilling, boring and tapping operations

6. (a) How is a milling machine specified? [4]
(b) Explain clearly the construction, parts and principle of working of a column
and knee type milling machine. [12]
7. (a) What are the various abrasive machining operations you are familiar with?
Explain their applications & limitations. [8]
(b) What for lapping is used? How much stock is left for lapping? How does it
differ from grinding? What are its advantages and disadvantages? [8]
8. Compare the broaching operation with that of any other metal machining operation
for the purpose of generating constant inside contours. Show sketches of some
example jobs made using broaching. [16]
