1. Name the three geological classification of rocks.
2. What is dressing of stones?
3. What are the classification of bricks?
4. What is the purpose of providing frog in brick?
5. What are the classification of mortar?
6. What is admixture?
7. What are the forms of timber available in market forms, mention any four forms?
8. What is the purpose of preservation of timber?
9. What are the new materials used in building construction?
10. What is sealant and where it is used in buildings?
PART B — (5 ? 16 = 80 marks)
11. What is the importance of grading of aggregates in the preparation of cement concrete? What are the methods used in proportioning of concrete mixes?
12. (a) Enumerate the characteristics of a good building stone, and what are the different methods used in dressing it.
Or
(b) How does the deterioration of stones take place in nature and also describe briefly the methods of their preservation?
13. (a) Explain the various tests to which a brick may be put before using it in an important work as per BIS standards.
Or
(b) Name four different forms of bricks with their uses and their disadvantages.
14. (a) What are the different forms of converted timber and also give the objectives of seasoning of timber?

(b) What are the ingredients used in oil paints? And explain their functions.
15. (a) Write the principle constituents of glass and what are the commercial forms of glass and their quality.
