PART A — (10 ? 2 = 20 marks) 1. What is meant by electromagnetic radiation? 2. State Beer-Lambert's law. 3. Explain the principle of scanning double-beam spectrophotometer. 4. What are the advantages of photometric titration? 5. Define specific refractometry and molecular refractivity. 6. Write any two applications of polarimetry. 7. Write Nernst equation. 8. Define single electrode potential. 9. State Mosley's law. 10. Write the important requirements of a carrier gas in gas chromatograph. PART B — (5 ? 16 = 80 marks) 11. Write a note on the following : (4 ? 4 = 16) (i) Sources of radiation and detectors in UV spectroscopy. (ii) Thermo gram of CaC2O4H2O. (iii) Ion selective electrodes. (iv) Reference electrodes. 12.
