Industrial Electronics - I
Time : 180 minutes Marks : 100
Instructions for the students :
1. All questions are compulsory.
2. “Long Answer type Question (LAQ)” is a supply type question of 20 marks,
which require typical answer of about 60-80 lines in about 32-40 minutes.
3. “Short Answer type Question (SAQ)” is a supply type question of 5 marks,
which require typical answer of about 15-20 lines in about 08-10 minutes.
4. Use of non-programmable type of scientific calculator is allowed.
5. Draw neat diagrams wherever necessary.
6. Assume suitable data if necessary.
Long Answer type Questions (LAQ’s)
1. (a) Draw a block diagram of a Digital Control System and
explain each block in detail.
(b) List the different types of switches and explain how they
work. Draw their symbols. (any five)
2. (a) List the various types of gears. With a neat diagram explain
Spur Gear and Worm Gear.
(b) Describe the function and operation of an electromagnetic
brake.
3. (a) List position sensors. Explain the working of an optical
Rotary encoder.
(b) Define the terms-Accuracy, Precision, Repeatability,
Sensitivity and Resolution.
4 (a) What is a Stepper Motor ? With a neat sketch explain the
principle of operation of a Permanent Magnet Stepper Motor.
(b) With a neat sketch explain the working of a basic pneumatic
system.
Short Answer type Questions (SAQ’s)
5. Draw and explain the working principle of an electromagnetic
relay.
6. Write a short note on Energy Conversion. 5
7. Differentiate between PTC and NTC. 5
8. Differentiate between 2 Phase Stepper Motor and a 4 Phase
Stepper Motor.
