PR 238 — FLUID POWER DRIVES AND CONTROLS
Time : Three hours Maximum : 100 marks
Answer ALL questions.
PART A — (10 ? 2 = 20 marks)
1. Give four applications of Fluid Power.
2. What is Low Cost Automation (LCA)?
3. Name the different types of pumps with their classifications.
4. Give four applications of Hydrostatic transmission.
5. What is the function of Actuator?
6. What is the function of FRL Unit?
7. Draw a simple circuit diagram of a control of simple acting hydraulic cylinder.
8. What are the fluidic devices used in fluidic circuit?
9. What are different Electrical components used in fluid power circuits?
10. What are the advantages of PLC over Electromechanical relay control system?
PART B — (5 ? 16 = 80 marks)
11. Give details with neat sketch about all ISO symbols used for fluid power elements.
12. (a) Briefly explain the working principle and construction details of
vane pumps and derive the equation for its actual Volumetric Displacement (VD).
Or
(b) Briefly explain about the closed circuit hydrostatic drive–reversible direction of hydrostatic transmission system.
13. (a) Explain briefly about the operation of two way and four way directional control valve with neat sketch and graphical symbols.
Or
(b) Explain with neat sketch about the operation of a Diaphragm type accumulator along with the charging and testing device for Diaphragm type accumulator.
14. (a) (i) What are the 3 important consideration to be taken when analyzing or designing a hydraulic circuits? (3)
(ii) Explain with neat sketch about the hydraulic cylinder sequencing circuit. (13)
Or
(b) In basic fluidic devices, explain the operation of the basic bistable
flip–flop with its symbols and truth table, OR/NOR gate with its symbols and truth table, AND/NAND gate with its symbols and truth table.
15. (a) Briefly explain with neat sketch of all symbols used and the use of various electrical switches, relays, timer, solinoid and indicator lamp.
Or
(b) (i) State the main function of the following with Block diagram of PLC.
(1) CPU (2) Programmer/Monitor
(3) I/O Module. (8)
(ii) Draw the PLC ladder logic diagram and explain. (8)
