Basic Electronics - I
Time : 180 minutes Marks : 100
Instructions for the students :
1. All questions are compulsory.
2. “Long Answer type Question (LAQ)” is a supply type question of 20 marks,
which require typical answer of about 60-80 lines in about 32-40 minutes.
3. “Short Answer type Question (SAQ)” is a supply type question of 5 marks,
which require typical answer of about 15-20 lines in about 08-10 minutes.
4. Use of non-programmable type of scientific calculator is allowed.
5. Draw neat diagrams wherever necessary.
6. Assume suitable data if necessary.


Long Answer type Questions (LAQ’s)

1. (a) Draw and explain Forward and Reverse characteristics of
diode.
(b) Explain the concept of Barrier potential.
(c) State Thevenin’s and Norton’s Theorem.


2. Write short notes on the following-
(a) Zener diode.
(b) Varactor diode
(c) Schottky diode
(d) Opto-isolator

3. Explain with a neat circuit diagram operation of full wave
(center-tapped) rectifier. Also draw necessary wave forms.
Write down the valves for ripple factor, ? & TUF.

4 Draw and explain input and output characteristics of CE
configuration. Show the different operating regions.

Short Answer type Questions (SAQ’s)

5. What is doping ? Why is it necessary ? 5
6. Differentiate between intrinsic and extrinsic semi conductor. 5
7. Define ripple factor, peak inverse voltage and ? . 5
8. Explain transistor as a switch.
