Mechanical Engineering
EC 152 — ELECTRONICS ENGINEERING
(Common to Mechatronics, Chemical, Textile, Leather, Industrial
Biotechnology, Polymer Technology and Fashion Technology)
Time : Three hours Maximum : 100 marks
Answer ALL questions.
PART A — (10 ? 2 = 20 marks)
1. Distinguish between intrinsic and extrinsic semi conductors.
2. Mention the applications of Zener diode.
3. Draw the input characteristics of a CE configuration.
4. How an amplifier is classified as class A and class B amplifier?
5. Draw the characteristics of Diac.
6. Mention the applications of UJT.
7. Draw the circuit diagram of Hartley oscillator.
8. How OP–AMP can be used as an integrator?
9. Draw the logic circuit diagram of a full adder and mention the truth table.
10. List out the different types of A/D converter.
PART B — (5 ? 16 = 80 marks)
11. Draw the circuit diagram of Wien bridge oscillator and explain its operation.
12. (a) With a circuit diagram and relevant waveforms, explain a centre tapped full wave rectifier.
Or
(b) Describe the principles of zener diode shunt regulator. Explain how regulation takes place with varying input voltage and varying load resistance.
13. (a) Draw the circuit diagram of a class B push pull power amplifier and explain its operation. Compare the efficiencies of class A and class B amplifiers.
Or
(b) (i) Explain with a circuit diagram, the performance of a single tuned amplifier.
(ii) Discuss about the need for stagger tuned amplifier.
14. (a) Explain with simple circuit diagrams, a common source and common gate amplifier.
Or
(b) (i) Describe the characteristics of SCR and UJT.
(ii) Describe the effects of negative feedback on various factors.
15. (a) (i) Implement a logic circuit diagram for the following function.

(ii) Explain with suitable logic circuit diagrams the realization of
RS flip flop and clocked RS flip flop.
Or
(b) Draw the circuit diagram of a R–2R ladder type D/A converter and explain its operation.
