Answer ALL questions.
PART A - (10 X 2 = 20 marks)
1. Write two sentences for each of the following words to bring out their difference in meaning when they are used as noun and as verb: (2 x 1 = 2) (a) Produce (b) Record
2. Fill in the blanks with the appropriate homophones: (4 x 1/2 = 2)

4. Rewrite the following expressions placing them in the position of an adjective: (4 x 1/2 = 2)

5. Make sentences using the hints given below to express purpose: (2 x 1 = 2)
(a) e-mail: ensure that thes message reaches the address at once. (b) a feasibility report : makes recommendations on the practicality of the project.
6. Use 'cause' words and join the following pairs of statements: (2 x 1 = 2)
(a) The steam from the boiler is wet. It has to be passed through a superheater. (b) The air filter gets clogged with dirt. It must be cleaned regularly.

PART B – (5 X 16 = 80 marks)
11. (a) Explain the methods of technical report.
Or
(b) Describe the methods that are to be followed while writing technical articles.
12. (a) Write a list of eight recommendations to overcome accidents in a chlorine plant.
Or
(b) Write eight instructions to maintain computers in a good working condition.
13. (a) Imagine that you have to appear for an interview at New Delhi. Prepare a checklist of eight important activities that you would like to do before leaving for the interview. Give a suitable title to your checklist.

(b) Develop the following hints into a paragraph of 200 words and give a suitable title. 14. (a) You are the Purchase offices of Bright Engineering Company, Mumbai-25. You have already called for quotations to purchase 15 tables, 20 ‘S’ type chairs and 10 revolving chairs. You have chosen Sarna Furniture Mart, 10, Radhakrishna Salai, Chennai-5. Place your order with the company mentioning the terms and conditions of the transaction, place and date of delivery, mode of payment, type of packing, mode of transport, discount and other details.

(b) As the Managing Director of your company, you want to improve the training and marketing skills of your Sales Trainees. A reputed training centre offers various courses to enhance the skills of sales men. Enquire the centre about the list of courses, duration of each course, course content, fee structure and other details. Assume suitable names and addresses.
