LIBRARY ADMINISTRATION AND MANAGEMENT
Time : Three hours Maximum : 100 marks
PART A — (5 ? 8 = 40 marks)
Answer any FIVE questions in about 200 words each.
1. Explain the functions of management. State how it is applied in the Library field.
2. Discuss the Book selection policies and principles of University libraries.
3. What do you mean by library budget? Discuss the method of preparing library budget with an example.
4. ‘‘Periodicals create a number of problems in registration and maintenance in a library –Discuss.
5. How is an annual report of a library prepared? How would it be useful for a library development?
6. Explain the need for a library committee and the role of librarian for the library committee.
7. Present a brief analysis of the work involved in the technical section of a University Library.
8. Briefly describe the different sections of an public library and their functions.
PART B— (4 ? 15= 60 marks)
Answer any FOUR questions in about 400 words each.
9. Explain the general problems of managing a big library and discuss how the knowledge of management will help to solve these problems.
10. What are the reasons for the loss of books in a library and explain the measures to be adopted for minimize the loss.
11. Give an account of an organizational pattern suitable for a University Library.
12. Explain the principles of personnel management.
13. Differentiate between PPRS and ZBB which one will be suitable for a research library. Elucidate your statement with example.
14. Write short notes on any THREE of the following.
(a) Organization chart
(b) Open access
(c) Reservation
(d) Library records
(e) Kardex.
