1. Discuss the basic distributed system(process) topologies with their graph repre-
sentation ( nodes for the processors or information and links for interconnection
between the processors). [16]
2. With the help of neat diagrams explain the LAN communication between the Con-
trollers in Distributed control systems. [16]
3. Distinguish between system decomposition and system decoupling. How are they
related to an optimal control problem. [16]
4. What is an Essential model? Describe the methods recommended by Ward and
Mellor for checking the correctness of the essential model. [16]
5. Describe ‘Triple Modular Redundancy’ for increasing the reliability of a system.
Give suitable example. [16]
6. Describe Process monitoring and trouble shooting in real time process using expert
system. [16]
7. Distinguish between a ‘semaphore’ and ‘signal’ and their application in solving a
producer- consumer problem. [16]
8. Describe the following aspects of a distributed control system:
(a) Geographical distribution or layout
(b) Computer proximity to local units
(c) Incremental growth
(d) Effect of failure of a single nodeand
(e) Reduced software complexities. [3+3+3+3+4]
