MEG-7 : INDIAN ENGLISH LITERATURE

Time: 3 hours
Maximum Marks: 100
Note : Answer all questions. All questions carry equal marks.

1. Annotate any four of the following (about 150 words each) : (4x5=20)

(i) "But of what colour ?" - "Rose-red", love first chose
Then prayed, - "No, lily-white, - or, both provide";
And Flora gave the lotus, "rose-red" dyed,
And "lily-white" - the queenliest flower that blows.

(ii) Voice of infinity, sound in my heart, -
Call of the one !
Stamp their thy radiance, never to part,
O living Sun.

Taking French guns and mortar shells
To Indo-China, scrubbed the decks,

2. Assess the prose writings of Swami Vivekanand and Sri Aurobindo in terms of their contribution to the propagation of Indian thought. (400 - 450 words) (20)

Compare and contrast the views and attitudes of Jawaharlal Nehru and Niirad C. Chaudhuri towards fheir country as revealed in their autobiographies. (400 - 450 words)

3. What are the main features of Raja Rao's narrative technique in Kanthapura ? Discuss with appropriate examples. (400 - 450 words) (20)

"Mulk Raj Anand's novels portray indian social problems realistically." Discuss with reference to the novel, Untouchable. (400-450 words)

4. 'Anita Desai has contributed immensely to Indian - English fiction. Discuss with special reference to Clear Light of Day. (400 - 450 words) (20)
