Note : Question No. 1 is compulsory. Answer any three questions from the rest.
1.(a) Illustrate the characteristics of the following with primary focus on an lnsurance Company : (10)
(i) Transaction processing systems
(ii) MIS
(iii) Decision support systems
(b) Enumerate the factors that are important to the quality of a software system. Illustrate their significance in a qualitative manner with sorne examples. (10)
(c) Discuss the features and relative merits of system flowcharts, decision tables and decision trees. Give an example for each. (10)
2. (a) Describe the importance and characteristics of a good documentation in systems development process. (8)
(b) What are the way in which an "Advertisement Agency" could benefit by installing a multi-media system in its Reception? Suggest the hardware and the software requirements for that system. (7)
3.(a) Draw a data flow diagram (DFD) depicting various processes, data flow and data repositories for a retail outlet of a chemist-shop. Follow the appropriate conventions/symbols as given in your study material. (7)
(b) Explain what kind of fact finding techniques would you use for deciding on the design of a new application/system for some Internet Service Provider (lSP). (8)
4. (a) "Conversion is the process of changing from the old system to the newly developed one." Explain any three methods of conversion. (7)
(b) List and explain the basic factors to be considered in the selection of file media and file organisation method. (8)
5. (a) Explain the three primary classifications of the forrns mentioning their characteristics along with an example for each. (7)
(b) Explain the following with an example for each : (8)
(i) Nassi-Shneidermann chart
(ii) PERT chart
