1. (a) What is the basic architecture of the internet?
(b) With a diagram, explain how IP routers are used for interconnection? [8+8]
2. What are the problems associated with Address Resolution? How the resolution is
carried through direct mapping and through dynamic binding? [16]
3. (a) What is super-netting and what are its effects on routing?
(b) The broadcasting in subnet is more critical and difficult. Explain. [8+8]
4. (a) What is Hello protocol? How the Oscillation is avoided.
(b) Distinguish between interior gateway protocol and exterior gateway protocol?

5. (a) Estimate the size of multicast forwarding table needed to handle multicast of
audio from thousand radio stations, If each station has a total of 10 million
listeners at random locations around the world.
(b) Explain group membership state transmission in IGMP? [8+8]
6. “One cannot distinguish the names of sub-domains form the individ-
ual objects or type of an object using only domain name syntax”.

7. (a) What are the architectural components of Web media?
(b) What is the HTTP Scheme followed by URL? Mention the purpose of each
field in brief? [8+8]
8. It is possible to translate some application protocols into others. For example,
it might be possible to build a program that accepts an FTP request, translates
it to a PFTP request, passes the result to a TFTP server to obtain a file, and
translates the reply back to FTP for transmission to the original source. What are
the advantages and disadvantages p of such protocol translation? [16]
