1. What are the different parameters of lines in transmission and distribution ? explain
in detail about each parameter with associated formulae; what is the effect of earth
on capacitance. [16]
2. (a) What is the purpose of load division between the generators, briefly discuss
about it with a neat graph. [6M]
(b) Two units of generation maintain 66 kV and 60kV (line) at the ends of an
inter connector of inductive reactance per phase of 40
and with negligible
resistance and shunt capacitance. A load of 10 MW is to be transferred from
a 66kV unit to the other end. Calculate the necessary conditions between the
two ends, including the power factor of the current transmitted. [10M]
3. What is area control error, briefly discuss about it. [16M]
4. Discuss in detail about the different connection schemes associated with the dis-
tributed systems. [16M]
5. Explain the role of computers in distribution system planning. [16M]
6. Discuss briefly about central monitoring system. [16M]
7. (a) What is the purpose of a circuit breaker?
(b) Explain the mechanism of any one type of circuit breaker’s. [2+14]
