1. Write short notes on the following
(a) Electrolytic Conductivity
(b) Conductance Cells
(c) Temperature Compensation in conductivity measurements. [5+5+6]
2. Explain how silica analysis is done in boiler water of power plant. [16]
3. (a) Explain the principle of operation of a paramagnetic oxygen analyzer?
(b) Describe in detail, how Galvanic method can be used to determine oxygen
concentration of a gas. [8+8]
4. (a) Explain in detail various types of columns used in process gas chromatograph.
(PGC) system.
(b) Explain the various column configurations in PGC system. [8+8]
5. (a) Explain briefly the principle and operation of UV/ visible spectrometer using
Littrow prism.
(b) Explain how the instrument is calibrated. [8+8]
6. (a) Explain the operation of multi channel type instrument to calculate focal
length of a monochromator.
(b) If the order used in an echelle grating is 70 and a dispersion angle 600, groove
density 80/mm and focal length 0.5 m, Obtain the reciprocal linear dispersion
and resolution. [6+10]
7. With neat block diagram, explain about the constructional details of NMR spec-
trometer. [16]
8. Explain with necessary sketches and graphs the characteristics of ionization type
of detectors. [16]
