1. What are the different zones of pollution in stream polluted by waste water dis-
charge. Explain each zone in detail. [16]
2. (a) What is meant by self purification of running streams ?
(b) How is it helpful in a sewerage system?
(c) List and explain the divisions of four zones in a self purification process.

3. Describe various types of chimney plume and draw the atmospheric temperature
profile corresponding to its occurrence. [16]
4. (a) Explain the collection mechanisms of particulate in a wet scrubber. What are
the advantages and disadvantages of scrubbers.
(b) Discuss fabric filters. [10+6]
5. Briefly discuss the various sources of organic vapors. Explain the common conta-
minants present in organic vapors and their characteristics. [16]
6. (a) What are the various types of gaseous emissions expected from a fertilizer
industry?
(b) Describe the options available for treatment of gaseous effluents. [8+8]
7. Why is anaerobic digestion of sewage sludge is done. Describe the various stages
of the sludge digestion process. [16]
8. Discuss the suitability of ion exchange method for the treatment of liquid waste
containing Cr. Discuss the process in detail. [16]
