1. (a) Mention the basic objectives of automation system?
(b) What are the guidelines to be followed in selecting an add- on- card? [8+8]
2. With a figure explain about the essential features of operating system for PC based
Instrumentation in detail. [16]
3. Draw the Block diagram of DMA Logic and give the circuit description. What is
a DPCLK logic in the above and give the circuit diagram and Timing diagram for
the DPCLK logic. [16]
4. With the help of a scheme explain the operation of priority vectored interrupt
scheme with respect toVME bus. Indicate the vectored interrupt protocol timing
diagram and explain the same. [16]
5. Explain in detail about RS-232C serial interface with a neat diagram. What are
its limitations. [16]
6. Draw the pin details of I/O channel bus of IBM PC system board and explain.[16]
7. Explain the use of ports and the use of IRQ in detail. [16]
8. Write a program in C to demonstrate the operation of both D/A and A/D con-
verters. [16]
