MS-54 : MANAGEMENT INFORMATION SYSTEMS
Time: 3 hours
Maximum Marks: 100
(Weightage 70%)
Note :Attempt any three questions from Section A. Each question carries 20 marks. Section B is compulsory and carries 40 marks.

SECTION A
1. (a) "Decision making requires ability to handle information carefully." Explain. How can you identify information needs ?
(b) Explain the importance of system analysis and design in the development of information systems, giving examples.
2. (a) Discuss the development of software systems.
(b) "Expert systems have greatly helped managers." Explain their benefits
3. (a) Discuss different modes of data transmission giving their features and applications.
(b) Explain data communication software and types of protocol. Give examples.
4. (a) Discuss the characteristics of computer virus. How does it spread and affect the systems ? Can you prevent virus attacks?
(b) Explain the legal dimensions associated with computers.
5. Write notes on any four :
(i) LAN
(ii) Data modelling
(iii) Expert Systems
(iv) Query languages
(v) RDBMS
SECTION B
6. A new chain of retail shops is planning to have its activities computerised. The shop will deal in grocery items, clothes, leather goods and cosmetics. It expects to have about 200 customers on an average. You are required to develop a system for this group. Do the system analysis and suggest a design for the same. What hardware requirement will be there ? Give a report.
