Note: Solve any three questions from Section A and any four questions from Section B. All questions carry equal marks.

SECTION A

Watch-Kepping Procedures

1.(a) State the duties of an OOW when on anchor watch.
(b) State precautions required, to be taken when operating on 'AUTO PILOT'.

2. Draw out 'checklist' of iterns you would check prior to your vessel arriving at a port.

3.(a) Why did it become necessary to introduce 'Traffic Separatio Schemes' as a mandatory measure ?
(b) What advantages does a ship get through weather routing ?

4. (a) Who all shall form the bridge team and what are their duties ?
(b) What is the relation between the Master and a pilot ? State what information is exchanged between them before the pilot starts the actual job.

SECTION B

Safety and Security

5. Discuss importance of checklists. Why do checklists constitute a very important component of an operation on board a ship ?

6. Write short notes on any two of the following :
(a) Ship Security Assessment
(b) Ship Security Plan
(c) Importance of emergency preparedness, drills and exercises

7. Describe various methods used for carrying out physical searches on board ships

8. Write short notes on the following :
(a) Shipboard contingency plans on your last ship
(b) Permit to work system

9. Name ten precautions you would take while working aloft and outboard.

10.(a) What precautions are taken before any welding, flame cutting or any other 'hot work' is begun on a ship?
(b)What is the composition of the air we breathe ? What instruments are available on the ship for testing the atmosphere?
