Q.3 a. What is the purpose of an Echo-suppressor? Why is it necessary for successful data communication? Which forms of data communication - simplex, half duplex or full duplex is not useful with an enabled echo suppressor? (6)
b. Briefly explain the following : (8)
(i) Concentrator.
(ii) Subscriber's loop.
Q.4 Explain in detail the following :
(i) Video & Voice response systems.
(ii) Wired Home and Paperless office. (7)

Q.5 a. Explain with proper block diagram the principle of operation of modern telephone system. Explain frequency characteristics of DTMF. (8)
b. In a packet switched network circuit determine the packet size which minimizes the total delay. (6)
Q.6 a. Derive an expression for the blocking probability of a TSTS switch if each stage is individually non blocking. (5)
b. What is ALOHA? Derive the expression for the throughput of a slotted ALOHA. (9)

b. What types of digital circuit is used as a bit splitter? What are the advantages and disadvantages of a 16 QAM modulator vis-à-vis a 16 PSK modulator? (6)

Q.8 a. With a neat block diagram explain Ethernet Interface Adapter. (6)

b. How does CSMA/CA differs from CSMA/CD? Explain the fast Gigabit Ethernet. What is the chief use of Gigabit Ethernet? (8)

(i) Show the distribution of MTA and UA in this environment.
(ii) How would the message exchange take place between two personal
computer and a workstation? (7)
