1. (a) What is tool life? What is the significance of tool life to an engineer who is
interested in productivity?
(b) Define machinability index. What are the variables affecting machinability?

2. (a) Name any three lathe accessories and explain their functions.
(b) Enumerate the applications of capstan lathe and turret lathe. [8+8]
3. (a) Describe with a schematic sketch the operation of a hydraulic shaper.
(b) Write the applications of planning machines. [8+8]
4. (a) Sketch and explain the various types of tools used on boring machines.
(b) Describe the procedure of boring on Vertical boring machine. [10+6]
5. (a) What are the various cutter holding devices used on a milling machine?
