M.A. (CC & E) DEGREE EXAMINATION, MAY 2008.
RESEARCH IN CHILD STUDIES
Time : Three hours Maximum : 100 marks
PART A — (5 x 8 = 40 marks)
Answer any FIVE questions in about 200 words each.
1.What is research? Discuss its significance and the need for research in child studies.
2.Discuss the need for review of related literature in research study.
3.Define ‘Hypothesis’. What are the different methods of testing hypothesis? Explain any one method.
4.Write short notes on the following :
(a)Observation
(b)Interview.
5.What are the qualities of a good researcher?
6.Bring out the concept and uses of ethnography.
7.Examine the significance of research design.
8.Discuss about case study method.
PART B — (4 × 15 = 60 marks)
Answer any FOUR questions in about 400 words each.
9.Write a brief note on fundamental, applied and action research.
10.What is questionnaire? Discuss the points to be remembered and followed in constructing a good questionnaire.
11.Describe in detail about the process of standardisation of a research tool.
12.What are the major considerations in the selection of research problem?
13.Discuss about longitudinal and cross sectional research.
14.Write about the descriptive and inferential statistics to be applied in research.
15.Describe the structure of a research report.
