(b) Describe constructional features of speed gearbox of planer? [10]
5. (a) Differentiate between taper, plug and bottoming taps. [6]
(b) What is the function of a tap drill? [5]
(c) Why are drilled holes superior to punched holes in vessel work? [5]
6. (a) Explain clearly what is meant by milling. [6]
(b) Give a brief classification of various milling machines used in the industry
giving a brief note on the application. [10]
7. (a) What is the classification method that could be used for grinding machines?
Give the application of each variety of grinding machines. [10]
(b) Explain the correct transverse setting for an external cylindrical grinding op-
eration showing the relationship of the wheel and the work. [6]
8. (a) What is lapping? What are its advantages? [6]
