NOTE: There are 9 Questions in all.
· Question 1 is compulsory and carries 20 marks. Answer to Q. 1. must be written in the space provided for it in the answer book supplied and nowhere else.
· Out of the remaining EIGHT Questions answer any FIVE Questions. Each question carries 16 marks.
· Any required data not explicitly given, may be suitably assumed and stated.


Q.1 Choose the correct or best alternative in the following: (2x10)

a. The data rate of a telephone quality signal is

b. Give the details of ATM cell structure and explain the details. (8)

c. Distinguish between inter frame coding and intra frame coding. (4)

Q.5 a. Briefly explain various QoS issues. (6)

b. What are the steps involved in image preparation used in JPEG image compression. Explain them with the help of a diagram. (10)

Q.6 a. MPEG distinguishes four types of image coding for processing. List out these four types and explain how images are coded using these four types.

Q.7 a. What are the video bit rates supported by ATM networks. Explain briefly. (8)

b. Explain run length coding on ac coefficients and differential pulse code modulation (DPCM) on dc coefficients. (8)

Q.8 a. Explain the different layers of OSI reference model in detail. (10)

b. Distinguish between cell relay and frame relay with examples. (6)

Q.9 a. What do you understand by voice over IP? Explain one mechanism in detail. (8)

b. Write a brief notes on image searching techniques. (8)
