1. Discuss the following:
(a) Creep resisting materials
(b) Strain rate sensitivity
(c) Pressure and leak tests. [6+5+5]
2. Discuss the following:
(a) Modification of Al-Si alloys
(b) Alclad alloys
(c) High strength - low density Aluminium alloys. [7+4+5]
3. (a) What is nano-composite ? Indicate the difficulties of nano-composites.
(b) Discuss particulate reinforced composites. [6+10]
4. Discuss indetail the deformation and failure processes that occur in continuous
unidirectional composites in tension. [16]
5. (a) Write the computational procedure for the determination of lamina strength.
(b) Explain how a composites (FRA) elastic constant is found theorietically, when
the fibres are transverse and in longitudinal direction. [8+8]
6. (a) Explain the criteria of designing fibre composites with discontinuous reinforce-
ments.
(b) suggest an appropriate matrix to be used for the following fibre types and
explain their effect:
i. E-glass
ii. Boron
iii. Oriented Polyethylene
iv. Sic. [8+8]
7. (a) List and explain the parameters which affect the fracture toughness of a ma-
terial.
(b) Explain the role of different penetrant test methods. What are emulsifiers?
Discuss. [6+10]
8. (a) What is avidmid K? List the various 7 properties and applications of industries
avidmid K composites in engineering and aircraft assembly.
(b) Explain the standard temper designation of aluminium alloys.
