Note : Answer all questions.
1. Read the passage and write out the right answer after picking out the right response from the multiple choice section: (2x5=10)
Selection of species is the first step forxenotransplantation. Greater the genetic difference between man and animal, stronger is the response of the human immune system in rejecting the donor organ. Baboons and pigs are the favoured animal species assources of organs for xenotransplaniation. Baboons, because they are closely related to human species, and pigs, because they are easy to breed. Though a pig can be genetically engineered to produce clean organs, pig heart valves and pig organs have the problem of size mismatch with human organs.
Advances in xenotransplantation technology are creating a clamour for pushing laboratory research to the stage of clinical trials.

5. Make notes after reading the following passage : (10)
During the growing up years, children keep on getting a bruise and burns here and there : it's important that parents be aware of the first aid, otherwise a minor incident could turn into an emergency.
It was for this purpose that recently a talk 'Here is help : A first aid guide to parents' by Dr. Suresh Gupta, Consultant, Paediatric Emergency Medicine at Sri Ganga Ram Hospital was organised in New Delhi's Habitat World. It was aimed at educating the parents to tackle situations like burns, choking. head injury, drowning, nose bleeding, sprains, cuts, falls etc. Some of the tips given by the doctor were : 'Be attentive while closing the door. Apply direct pressure in case of nose bleeding and hold it further for 10 minutes without break. In case of poison ingestion, never try to induce the person to vomit. unless you got the advice from the doctor. Never cut the area where the insect has bitten, but wash it with running water for at least 20 minutes. Try to remove the sting. Gupta says there are certain precautions, which parents can take to avoid emergencies. "Don't eat medicine in the presence of children. Destroy the old ones, if any. Don't call medicines as candy, because children can eat anything, anytime".
