2007 Punjab Technical University FUNDAMENTALS OF COMPUTER PROGRAMMING AND INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY Question paper

Maximum Marks : 60

NOTE:- This paper consist of Three Sections. Section A is compulsory. Answer any five questions from Section B & Section C, selscting at least two questions from each section.

1.(a) Differentiate between RAM and ROM.
(b) What is the difference between internal and external command?
(c) What is the difference between DOS and Windows?
(d) What is the advantage of Mailmerge?
(e) Differentiate between primary memory and secondary memory.
(f) List the features of OOPS.
(g) How can you still cause a statement to execute if none of the case constants match with the switch parameter ?
(h) What do you understand by Inhertiance?
(i) What di you understand by Polymorphism?
(j) What do you call a specification when it has data 1 Km and member functions?

2. List various components of a computer. How these components are connected? xplain each component.
3. Give syntax of the following commands with examples:
(a) Formattinf a flopy drive
(b) Copy a file to a flopy drive
(c) Rename a file
(d) Detete a file
(e) Display the directory structure
(f) Compare CHDSK with SCANDISK.
4. State True of False
(a) Is it necessary to load MS-PUS before running windows.
(b) Multiple programs can be executed simultaneously in Windows.
(c) Without a mouse we cnnot work with Windows.
(d) A group can have more than one application program
(e) One can use file manager to run an application.
(f) It is possible to run a DOS application as an icon.
(g) It is not possible to move a file from one directory to another using filemanager.
(h) Windows is an Operating System.
5. What are the main features of Ms word? Discuss EDIT and Table menu in detail.

6. What are the program development tools? Explain.Write a program to check whether a given no. is prime or not.
7. (a) What class function enables opening a file in write mode>
(b) What error conditions are tested on a file pointer?
(c) What are the three modes in which a file can be opened?
(d) What are features of OOPS? Discuss them with examples.
8. What do you understand by array? Give declaration of 1-dimensional, 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional array. Write
a program to sort the list in ascending order.
9. Write short notes on the following :
(a) Sequential input/output operators
(b) Operator overloading
(c) Structures
(d) Control structures.
