1. (a) Explain each term of a tool designated as 8,12,10,7,0,15,1.5 mm (b) Discuss the di?erent types of cutting ?uids used in metal cutting.
2. (a) What are the important speci?cations of a lathe? (b) List commonly used attachments on lathe and explain them brie?y. [6+10] [8+8]
3. (a) Explain the di?erences in the construction and operation between a slotter and shaper. (b) Describe the principal parts of planer. [6+10]
4. How is the drilling machine speci?ed? Give a brief description of various types of drilling machines. [16]
5. (a) Describe the setup and procedure of cutting cams on a universal milling machine. (b) Di?erentiate between up milling and down milling. Explain their applications. [8+8]
6. (a) Describe the structure of a grinding wheel. (b) In centreless grinding, explain in-feed, through feed and end feed with their applications. [7+9]
7. (a) Explain the advantages and limitations of jig boring machines. (b) Calculate the indexing requirement for 77 divisions on a milling machine equipped with a simple indexing head. The index plates available are Plate No.1: 15 16 17 18 19 20 holes plate No.2 21 23 27 19 31 33 holes plate No.3 37 39 41 43 47 49 holes [8+8]
8. (a) Explain with the help of neat sketch, the working principle of Ultrasonic machining. (b) Explain the various industrial applications of Electric Discharge Machining. [10+6]
