ANSWER THE FOLLOWING:


PART A-(10*2=20)
1. What is Range Ambiguity? When does it occur?

2. A pulsed radar with a PRF of 1 KHz receives an echo pulse exactly 0.15 ms after it transmits. What should be the target range in Km? Also determine the maximum unambiguous range of the radar.

3. What is Crossed Field Effect? List any 2 devices that employ this effect.

4. What are the basic types of radar displays? Give examples.

5. Define CFAR.

6. The transmitted pulse has a rectangular envelope that is 4 µs wide . The frequency across this width is swept linearly from 495 MHz to 505 MHz. Determine the matched bandwidth and the compressed pulse width.

7. What is a clutter?

8. What is ROTODOME?

9. Differentiate Bi static Radar from monostatic RADAR.

10. What are the limitations of ILS?PART-B(5*16=80)

11. (a) Derive the simple radar range equation. & Differentiate CW radar from pulsed radar.
(Or)
(b) Draw a neat diagram of conical scan tracking radar and explain its principle of operation. & Briefly discuss on :
(1) Delay line cancellers (2) Radar Beacons

12 (a) Differentiate electron beam devices from vacuum tubes. & Explain in detail the amplification process of TWT amplifier with a neat diagram.
(Or)
(b) Explain the construction and principle of radiation of a Cassegrain reflector with its neat diagram, What are Duplexers? Explain their significance in a typical radar system and its types in detail.

13 (a) Explain the principle of pulse compression with a neat sketch & Draw a neat block diagram of a pulse compression radar and explain its operation in detail.
(Or)
(b) Give an account on SAW devices. & Enumerate and explain the characteristics of CFAR receivers.

14 (a) What is Anomalous propagation ? Explain
Describe the effect of microwave radiation hazards in the propagation of radio waves
(Or)
(b) Explain in detail the properties of sea clutter.
Write short notes on :
(i) Angel Echoes.
(ii) Attenuation by Precipitation.

15 (a) Draw neat block diagrams of monostatic and bistatic radars and explain them
Explain the concept of Synthetic Aperture radar with neat diagram Explain how it is different from Inverse SAR.
(Or)
(b) Describe the principle of OTHR.
