IC - 418 DISTRIBUTED CONTROL SYSTEM (B.Tech 8th Semester, 2063) Time : 3 Hours Maximum Marks : 60 NOTE:- This paper consist of Three Sections. Section A is compulsory. Do any Four questions from Section B and any two questions from Section C
Section-A Marks : 20
1(a) Define distributed control system (DCS). (b) What is meant by multirate sampling system ? (c) State Shannon's Theorm as applied to Digital Control System. (d) Define access time and cycle time. (e) What is the need for Digital Control ? (f) Mention the significance of computers in modern control system. (g) Mention the significance of control console equipment. (h) What is stastical method of process control ? (i) What are the features of set-point station method of interfacing digital control computers with Analog controllers ? (j) List out the major difference between PLCS and Computers.

2. Explain the concept of centralised computer control system. 3. Write short notes on : (a) RAM (b) Magnetic Tape Memory 4. Explain any two of the control console equipments used in distributed control system (DCS). 5. Explain the significance of process monitoring and control units. 6. How Network Linkages are used to overcome the serial linkages in integrating distributed control system (DCS) with computers ?

7. Explain clearly the hiearchial organization for complete process computer control system. 8. Discuss in detail the Direct Digital Method of control in distributed control system (DCS). 9. Write short notes on : (a) Expert Systems (b) Significance of statistical method of process control.
