1. (a) Write about end uses of chlorine.
(b) Explain the manufacture of sodium carbonate by any process with the help of
block diagram and mention reactions involved in it. [6+10]
2. (a) Discuss about purification of hydrogen.
(b) Draw a neat sketch of Linde double column and name its components. [8+8]
3. (a) Draw a neat flow diagram for sulphuric acid manufacture indicating the com-
ponents.
(b) Give the applications of alum. [10+6]
4. Describe the manufacture of Portland cement with neat block diagram. Discuss
the major engineering problems. [16]
5. (a) Give the bsic chemical reactions involved in the production of Phenol-Formaldehyde.
(b) Discuss the properties and uses of Phenol-Formaldehyde. [16]
6. (a) Give a brief account on the use of edible and essential oils as a chemical raw
material by the industry.
(b) Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of production oils by mechanical
and solvent extraction methods. [8+8]
7. (a) What is soap? How does it differ from detergent?
(b) Explain the mechanism of cleaning using cleaning agent like soap or detergent.
