PART A — (5 ? 8 = 40 marks)
Write short essays on any FIVE of the following.

2. Mention the three stages of Wordsworth's experience with reference to the ‘Tintern Abbey’.
3. Assess ‘‘The Last Ride Together’’ as a Dramatic Monologue.
4. How is death personified in Emily Dickinson's ‘Because
I Could not Stop for Death’?
5. Bring out the central theme in Wallace Stevens' ‘Sunday Morning’.
6. Justify how ‘Small Scale Reflections reveals the poets gearning for self-fulfilment through family relationship.
7. Write a critical appreciation of ‘The Old Playhouse’.
8. Discuss how The Telephonic Conversation is a satire on the coloured person's experience in England.
PART B — (4 × 15 = 60 marks)
Answer any FOUR of the following.
9. Consider ‘Mac Flecnoe’ as a satire.
10. The Waste Land is the expression of the dissolution of a generation – Discuss.
11. Arnold's criticism of modern life in ‘The Scholar Gypsy’.

14. Discuss the irony and humour in the ‘Night of the Scorpion’.
15. Write an essay on Australia – its past and present – from A.D. Hopes poem.
