Antidepressants act by altering neurotransmitters & do help. Depression is seen when neurotransmitter balance gets affected. This imbalance is corrected by antidepressants. Proper counselling is important along with antidepressants. Proper diagnosis of depression disorder is essential. Whether it is related to any traumatic episode in life is very important. How often the patient gets mood changes is also to be observed.
