There are many sideeffects may occur after lasik surgery. They are...
--Loss of best corrected visual acuity.
--May loss of vision permanently due to absence of epithelium of the eye.
--May need under correction for nearsighted patients and over correction for farsighted patients.
--May loss of contrast sensitivity.
--Visual symptoms (such as photophobia) may produce.
--Severe dry eye syndrome may produce due to loss of pre-corneal tear film.
--Negative result may occur for High Refractive Error patients.
--Glare Haze and irregular astigmatism may produce due to unequal corneal flap.
--Decentration.
--Flap problems such as Flap Dislocation, Swelling, Infection may occur.
--Corneal infection may occur after laser vision LASIK surgery.
--The cornea becomes thin after LASIK.
--Severe allergies may produce after LASIK eye surgery.
--Due to monovision, you may loss contrast vision, may loss ability to do sharp work and may loss ability driving at night also.
--Haloas effects may produce after LASIK.
--May develop karatoconus (cone shape cornea) after LASIK vision correction.
--Bilateral treatments may produce high risks of the eye.
--Enhancement procedure (re-LASIK) may require after LASIK.
--May need glasses for presbyopic patients.
So I think this not 100% altering surgery for avoiding eye glasses or contanct lenses.

Surgery to reduce power is called as refractive syrgery- LASIK. Various new techniques have been introduced like zyyoptix, etc. Due to this, it has become a safe surgery
First you will undergo a test called as corneal pachymetry- to measure thickness of cornea. If this is adequate, you can undergo LASIK. If this is inadequate, doctor willn't do LASIK as there is a chance of bulging of cornea ( keratectasia) after LASIL.
Your retina will also be checked before LASIK. Sometimes retina needs laser before LASIK if retina has holes/ weak spots like lattice.
LASIK machine is very costly -more than 1.5 crore. So charges are more ranging from 15- 16 thousand per eye. LASIK is relatively safe procedure. It is done under topical anaesthesia ( drops will be put in eyes to make it less sensitive). You can get both eyes operated at same time which takes about 30 min. You can go home immediately.
Do's & don'ts about LASIK-
You can start your daily routine from next day.
Avoid rubbing eyes, swimming, headbath for a few days. This can cause the corneal flap dislocation.
You can work on computer from next day. Wear a goggle while going out.
. Complications & risk involved -
In some cases, keratectasia ( bulging of cornea)occurs if thin corneas undergo LASIK. So doctor will not advise LASIK if pachymetry shows thin corneas.
LASIK can aggravate dryness / can lead to mild dryness of eyes. This can be managed by using lubricant eye drops. People who already have dry eyes shouldn't undergo LASIK
Corneal sensations can decrease to some extent post LASIK
Before selecting a case, one shouldn't have active eye infection like blepharitis, stye, etc.
In cases with power up to -10/-11, its possible to bring power to zero if cornea is having adequate thickness. In some cases where patients have -15, -20 power with cylinder, it may not be possible to bring power to zero & residual power may remain. In such case, patient can wear contact lens for that power.
A few months after LASIK, regression can occur. Changes in cornea can occur & some refractive error can come back. This happens in cases of people with high power. This can lead to patient dissatisfaction. This can be corrected by repeat LASIK
Sands of Sahara is a syndrome associated with LASIK. In this keratitis occurs which generally responds well to topical steroids.
Flap related complications like-
. Decentration
. Epithelial defects
. Buttonholing
. Free flap- absence of hinge
. Loss of flap - These can occur but have become less common nowadays due to improvement in techniques.
Rare complication like corneal perforation can occur.
LASIK is a safe procedure in experience hands if case is selected properly
