Consider clock of 24 hours instead of 2 divisional 12 hours. Midnight 12 is to be considered 0o' clock.

AM- ante meridian which means before noon ( before morning 12o' clock)

PM- post meridian which means afternoon (after morning 12o'clock)

A.M. / P.M. is a system used for telling time in 12 hours format, as in analog clocks.

A.M. is an abbreviation for ante meridiem , a Latin word meaning before noon. A.M. starts at 00.00.00 hrs at midnight and is till 11.59.59 hrs noon time.

P.M. is an abbreviation for post meridiem , a Latin word meaning after noon. P.M. starts at 12.00.00 hrs at noon and is till 11.59.59 night time.

12.00.00 hrs at midnight is 12 am, after that comes 1 am, 2 am,3 am......10 am, 11 am and 12 pm, after that comes 1 pm, 2 pm, 3pm......10 pm, 11 pm and 12 am.

The cycle goes on like that

Basically there are two types of time formats one is a 12 hour format and another is 24 hour format.

In this 12 hour format ,
A.M and P.M are included .A. M means Anti -meridian and P.M means Prime meridian.

So A.M starts from NIGHT 12:00 to 12:00 in the afternoon. Similarly P.M starts from 12:00 in the afternoon to 12:00 in the NIGHT.
